Dysphoria tips for all my non-cis followers!
These could apply to any gender! If one section doesn’t apply to you, then congratulations! That’s awesome! If all of them do, then I hope I can help! Feel free to add anything I missed
Showers:
Showers have always been a big struggle for me. I find that these few things make showers much easier for me to tolerate
-shower with the lights off.
(If anyone asks you why you’re doing that, just respond “its a brain teaser thing. Like switching what hand you brush your teeth with”)
-Borrow a family member’s soap. Or, if that’s not an option, find the soap that is most like your true gender. As a closeted transgender, I understand what it’s like to not want to ask for hygiene items that you truly prefer. If you still use soap that smells like your birth gender, then that’s okay. Just make sure that you’re okay with that
Binding:
-Don’t bind for more then around 12 hours. Take it off when you’re going to bed. If it’s comforting for you (for while you’re sleeping), wrap a towel or blanket around your chest
-if you can’t bind for any reason, don’t worry. You don’t really have to bind to be your true gender. Although if you still would like to appear flat, I recommend wearing baggy shirts or things that have a more unisex style. I get called a guy all the time (which is my preference, don’t worry) and I don’t bind. I’ve also had practice with how I present myself, so that makes it easier to appear male.
-Wash your binder. I didn’t for a while and it made me break out like c r a z y. Just be sure to handwash it. NO MACHINE WASHING
-If your binder is too small, don’t wear it. Just please don’t.
Clothing:
-Just wear what feels good for you. Identify as male and wear dresses? Cool! Identify as anything along the gender spectrum but wear something typically associated with a binary gender? Lit fam
Just do what makes all of you happy. Being not cis isn’t a crime. I promise that you’re not alone, no matter how much it feels like that.
Take it easy guys, gals and non-binary pals
Love you all 💙
