stonewall have done a great job of making responding to the consultation easy and it’s a quick process to go through the form on their website. 

i am going to copy/paste directly from innesmck on twitter who put it as succinctly as possible:

right now the process for gender recognition:

• is exensive
• requires medical transition
• excludes many many trans people
• can be blocked entirely if you’re married
• requires providing evidence so a panel of cis judges can decide whether you’re transitioned enough

we need a gender recognition process which is:

• free
• straightforward
• dignified
• believes trans people
• requires no medical documents
• includes trans young people
• includes non-binary genders)

if you want to be a good ally, this is one way to help. add your voice. don’t delay; do it immediately. tell other people and make sure they do it immediately too.

If you are 18+ and LGBT, GET OUT AND VOTE ON NOVEMBER 6TH. TRANSGENDER RIGHTS ARE IN DANGER.

The Trump Administration is planning to change the legal definition of sex to- “male or female, unchangeable, Unless by genetic testing.” Aka, trans people would be completely erased. They would have no rights towards discrimination, changing their gender, or even presenting as trans in general. If you aren’t planning to vote or you’re on the fence, PLEASE, for the love of god, get out and vote. We have to protect our community.

Excerpt from the article: “For the last year, the Department of Health and Human Services has privately argued that the term “sex” was never meant to include gender identity or even homosexuality, and that the lack of clarity allowed the Obama administration to wrongfully extend civil rights protections to people who should not have them.”

Make no mistake, this isn’t some minor legal clarification.  The people behind this are outright arguing that they want to take civil rights away from trans people because they feel they shouldn’t have them.
